The body of a UNIBEN final year student identified as Ayo, who reportedly returned from school and went swimming, has been recovered.
He went with his neighborhood friends when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Oteri Community divers on Friday afternoon recovered the corpse from a swamp where he reportedly drowned on Wednesday afternoon.
The boy and his friends were attempting to cross from one side of the dredger to the other side when he gassed out at the middle, a source said.
While struggling for life and shouting for help, he attempted to hold on to a floating wood but others who were already far ahead were unable to reach him before he sank and disappeared.
Efforts to search for him proved futile sparking up confusion until community divers were contacted to help recover his corpse.
Meanwhile, the Isodje neighborhood of Oteri community was thrown into mourning as tension enveloped the area after the recovery of his remains.
Describing the death as unfortunate, one of the friends of the deceased shed tears openly as he narrated that the victim is the only son of his parents.
The parents of the boy, too bereaved to be reached at press time, had however lodged a formal complaint at the Ughelli Police Division, after they received the news of the death.
Police officers were at the scene on Thursday and went away with his clothes and sandals, a resident confided.
