Popular socialite and businessman Chief Priest has stirred political conversations with fresh remarks suggesting that stronger support for President Bola Tinubu in the South-East could influence the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Reacting to a circulating video of the traditional ruler of Ezema Olo, Lawrence Agubuzo, who personally appealed to the President in Abuja, Chief Priest backed the monarch’s move, describing it as a strategic and timely intervention. In the clip, the Igwe directly urged Tinubu to consider the plea for Kanu’s freedom, asking the President to “hear our cry.”
Sharing the footage on Instagram, Chief Priest praised the royal father for taking the initiative to engage the Presidency.
He argued that without such direct communication, the message from the region might not have reached Tinubu in a meaningful way.
The entrepreneur maintained that confrontation with the Federal Government would not yield positive results, emphasising instead the need for political cooperation.
According to him, aligning with Tinubu could open doors to concessions for the South-East, including a possible resolution to Kanu’s prolonged detention.
Chief Priest further noted that Tinubu secured victory in the last presidential election without substantial backing from the South-East, suggesting that a shift in political support could strengthen the region’s bargaining power in future negotiations.
He added that the President’s well-established political machinery makes him a formidable force in national politics.
Encouraging what he described as pragmatic engagement, Chief Priest urged the Igbo electorate to carefully consider their political strategy, expressing hope that collaboration could ultimately position the region favorably in Nigeria’s leadership succession.
