Chad Closes Border With Nigeria Over Security Concerns Amid Alleged U.S. Military Plans in West Africa

The Government of Chad has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, citing rising security concerns linked to reports of alleged U.S. military movements and plans in West Africa.

According to intelligence outlet Zagazola Makama, the directive was issued by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who emphasized the need to safeguard national security and maintain regional stability amid growing geopolitical tensions in the Sahel.

The Chadian government’s move follows a series of high-level security meetings in N’Djamena, where officials reportedly discussed the implications of foreign military operations and their potential effects on border communities and internal security.

Although details of the alleged U.S. military plans remain unclear, sources suggest that regional governments are on high alert, with Chad taking precautionary measures to control cross-border movements and prevent infiltration by armed groups.

The border closure is expected to affect trade, transportation, and movement between Nigeria’s Borno State and Chad’s western provinces, areas long known for their economic interdependence and shared security challenges.

Observers note that this development could signal a broader shift in regional defense strategies, as West African nations reassess alliances and territorial control amid rising instability.
