It was a black Tuesday in Nasarawa as gunmen who were suspected to be robbers raided and killed four persons at Wisdom supermarket, located in Adeyi Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to reports, the gunmen who stormed the supermarket at about 8.45 pm opened fire on the customers, killing three men and a lady, while ransacking everywhere and demanding money.
Residents said that the incident is worrisome and they are no longer safe.
One of the residents, Adamu Jacob, who was at the scene of the incident cited the abduction of the Chairman of Akwanga, Isa Andaha, and three others on Monday, December 25, 2023; the abduction of a lecturer i Kokona; and some students at the Federal University of Lafia and Nasarawa State University Keffi.
Adamu called on the state government to step up the security apparatus in the state to secure the safety of lives and property in Nasarawa State.
Meanwhile, confirming the raid, the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Ranham Nansel confirmed that the hoodlums invaded the supper market at 8.45 p.m. and shot and killed four.
According to the PPRO, the hoodlums opened fire on the customers and as a result four persons were recovered and taking to the hospital where they were confirmed dead by a medical doctor, and their corps have been deposited at the Maraba Medical Center.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Umar Shehu Nadada has directed the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the criminal investigation department in Lafia to move to the scene of the incident and carry out a comprehensive investigation into the case adding that the outcome of the investigation will be made known.
Videos taken at the scene after the criminals left showed bodies lying in pools of blood along different aisles in the supermarket.
One of those killed is said to be a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). A video from the scene shows him lying in his blood while still in his work clothes. He had his office-issued ID card on him.
