Azman Air has released a statement concerning a near miss incident involving it flight Boeing 737 registration number 5N-NAS, with 114 passengers from Lagos to Port Harcourt on Thursday, January 3rd, following an Engine failure.
No fewer than 114 passengers on board the plane which departed the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos to Port Harcourt International Airport escaped death after it failed to land hence resulted to panic among passengers.
Passengers upon landing took to social media to share details of the flight, saying they were in the air for almost 2 hours, instead of a 45-minute flight .
In a trending video on the social media some passengers were heard crying , praying and appreciating God for saving their lives.
The airline, in its statement, said the flight experienced an “unusual noise from the right engine while landing at destination” and the pilot got the situation under control.
The statement also added that reports about explosion and loss of engine are false.
The General Manager, Public Affairs, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr. Sam Adurogboye, who confirmed the incident on the phone said the airline had alerted the regulatory agency of the incident and that its inspectors would check the aircraft to ascertain its level of damage.
He, however, said the airline had sent in another aircraft to airlift some of its passengers out of Port Harcourt to other cities.
He said: “It is a safety issue. The airline has alerted us of the incident. The fact is that the aircraft had an engine issue mid-air, but it was able to land safety at Port Harcourt Airport.
After the incident, the airline had sent in another aircraft to airlift its passengers from Port Harcourt.”
When contacted, the Managing Director of the airline, Mr. Faisal Munaif, refused to pick the call to confirm the incident.
