The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has finally suspended its three-month old strike following an agreement it signed with the Federal Government, raising hope of an end to the three months old strike.
The agreement was signed on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting between the warring parties.
According to reports, lecturers have also been asked to resume on Friday.
The strike was called off after a two hour meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.
Ngige said after the meeting that eight areas of disagreements were discussed and agreed upon by the two parties, while expressing gratitude to ASUU leadership for their understanding.
ASUU president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said lecturers are to resume on Friday, February 8, 2019.
Recall the University lecturers commenced a nationwide strike late last year to demand for the full implementation of the agreement it reached with the government in 2009.
Until now, government and the leadership of the union have met nine different times, with non yielding any meaningful result.
Meanwhile, ASUU has not formally declared suspension of the strike as it is yet to address the media as at the time of filing this report.
