ASUU Issues 14-Day Ultimatum, Threatens Nationwide Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, warning that a failure to meet its long-standing demands could lead to yet another nationwide strike.

In a statement released by the union’s leadership, ASUU accused the government of neglecting agreements reached in previous negotiations, including issues of university funding, earned academic allowances, and improved welfare for lecturers. The union stressed that patience is wearing thin, and unless concrete action is taken within the given period, they will have no choice but to shut down academic activities across public universities.

This latest development has sparked growing concern among students and parents, many of whom fear a repeat of the prolonged strikes that have in the past crippled the academic calendar. Education stakeholders are urging the government and ASUU to find a quick resolution, warning that another disruption could have grave consequences for Nigeria’s already fragile education system.
