There was tension in Ubima, the hometown of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, after suspected armed thugs reportedly attempted to stop him from entering the community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday, only a few hours after unknown gunmen attacked and set ablaze the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima.
Sources said the situation nearly escalated when gunshots were allegedly fired around the area.
However, security operatives accompanying Amaechi’s convoy were able to repel the attackers and prevent further disruption.
The Homecoming
Amaechi had travelled to the community to formally complete his registration with the ADC, a move that marks his official entry into the party.
Despite the security scare, the former governor successfully registered at Ward 8 in Ubima on Friday morning.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters who gathered to welcome him into the party, Amaechi urged residents and party loyalists to remain peaceful and avoid retaliatory actions.
He stressed that responding with violence could lead to unnecessary loss of life, while also insisting that no group has the authority to stop political gatherings within the community.
Amaechi also praised the conduct of security personnel deployed to the area, particularly the Rivers State Commissioner of Police and officials of the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to him, their professionalism helped contain the situation.
He admitted that he had initially feared the security agencies might not act fairly but said their response during the incident changed his perception.
A Call On The Authorities
The former minister further called on security authorities to identify those responsible for the attack on the ADC office and ensure they face justice.
He maintained that intimidation and violent tactics would not deter members of the party from carrying out legitimate political activities in the area.
The latest development comes months after another alleged attack on ADC members in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
In February 2026, party supporters were reportedly assaulted during a sensitisation programme in the Igwuruta community.
