The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to provide clear and transparent reasons behind the sudden dismissal of Nigeria’s Service Chiefs amid growing speculation of an alleged coup attempt.

In a statement released on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Bamidele Ajadi, the ADC emphasized that while the President reserves the constitutional right to appoint or remove military leaders, such actions should be accompanied by full disclosure to Nigerians to prevent misinformation and unnecessary tension.
“Nigerians deserve to know the true reasons behind the abrupt sack of all the Service Chiefs. At a time when the country is grappling with insecurity, any abrupt change in military leadership without explanation raises questions and fuels public anxiety,” the statement read.
The ADC warned that lack of transparency in such sensitive matters could undermine public trust in government and weaken national stability.
The party further urged President Tinubu to address the nation promptly, clarify the circumstances surrounding the changes, and reassure citizens of his administration’s commitment to democracy and national security.
The statement comes barely 24 hours after the President announced a major military shake-up, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff and replacing heads of the Army, Air Force, and Navy.
