The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of prioritising political maneuvering over his responsibilities in office, alleging that he and his allies are planning to exit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, the APC claimed the governor has shifted focus away from governance, concentrating instead on his rumored ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party argued that this alleged political preoccupation has come at the expense of pressing state matters.
According to the APC, critical issues such as worsening security concerns, poor waste management, and fatal road accidents have not received the level of attention they deserve.
The opposition party insisted that these challenges demand urgent and sustained intervention from the state government.
The statement also referenced a recent tragic road accident in Ibadan, where lives were reportedly lost, noting that the incident should have commanded the governor’s immediate focus.
Instead, the APC alleged that Makinde convened a political meeting with supporters shortly afterward to discuss future plans, including a supposed timeline for leaving the PDP.
Furthermore, the party criticised what it described as insensitive actions by the governor, claiming that while residents were grieving, attention was diverted to what it termed unnecessary government spending, including the purchase of new vehicles for local officials.
The APC concluded by urging Governor Makinde to redirect his energy toward governance and address the immediate needs of the people, rather than engaging in early political strategising.

The statement added: “This alarm might have come against the backdrop of some developments in the state in recent times, such as challenges of insecurity, waste management, avoidable loss of lives to road mishaps, among others which political pundits and public affairs analysts believed should have received better attention from the Oyo state government.
“Last Tuesday; many lives of Ibadan residents were lost to road accident at Oje market and a few hours later, Gov. Makinde gathered his supporters to discuss 2027 politics and they all agreed to a date to leave the sinking ship (PDP).
