Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, says efforts are ongoing to form a partnership with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, to also train them on the roles to play at the site of crash.
The Commissioner of AIB, Engr. Akin Olateru, disclosed this, while speaking at the AIB’s Lagos office, Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos on Tuesday.
Mr Olateru promised that the agency would carry out a thorough job to unravel the cause of the helicopter crash, which claimed all three lives onboard, Bell Helicopter 206-B III with Serial Number 3216, Engine Model Allison 250–C20B.
The plane operated by Quorum Aviation,
had departed Port Harcourt Military Airport for the EAN Hangar at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.
But it however, crashed at Opebi, Ikeja area of Lagos on Friday August 28, 2020, barely one minute to landing at the Lagos airport.
The Helicopter brand is not fitted with
Flight Data Recorder (FDR) because of its size, thereby dismissing the speculation that it retrieved the black boxes of the crashed helicopter from the Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
However, the Preliminary report will be out in a few weeks
The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) therefore appeals to the public to refrain from speculating on the probable cause of the helicopter Bell 206BIII crash, saying that this may distract the investigators from carrying out efficient investigation on the crash.
It was the first crash with fatalities that the country would record in the past five years, but Olateru exuded confidence that Nigeria remained one of the safest airspace in the world.
