A factional National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Nafiu Bala, has unveiled a controversial proposal to reshape the party’s future by restricting political ambitions based on age.

Speaking during an interview on BBC Hausa, Bala emphasised a bold shift toward youth inclusion, declaring that under his leadership, individuals aged 55 and above would no longer be eligible to contest for positions within the party.

He described the move as part of a broader effort to reposition the ADC as a platform driven by younger Nigerians, stressing that the party belongs to all citizens but must evolve to reflect the country’s demographic reality.

According to Bala, Nigeria’s progress depends on empowering a new generation of leaders with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.

He argued that the dominance of older politicians has not delivered the desired results, making it necessary to create space for younger voices.

“The ADC is committed to moving forward in a meaningful way,” he said. “We are opening the door for young people to actively participate—not just as supporters, but as candidates and decision-makers.”
