Abuja Court Orders Remand of Ex-AGF Malami, Son and Wife.

Abuja court has ordered the remand of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), alongside his son and wife, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings.

The ruling followed their arraignment over allegations linked to financial misconduct and abuse of office during Malami’s tenure as Nigeria’s chief law officer. Prosecutors told the court that investigations uncovered transactions and actions allegedly involving close family members, prompting their inclusion in the case.

During the proceedings, the prosecution requested that the defendants be remanded in custody, arguing that the matter involved serious allegations and required time for proper trial preparation. Defence lawyers reportedly opposed the request, seeking bail and insisting their clients were willing to cooperate fully with the court.

After listening to arguments from both sides, the presiding judge granted the prosecution’s request and ordered that Malami, his son, and his wife be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre until the next adjourned date.

The case has drawn widespread public attention due to Malami’s former position as Attorney-General of the Federation, a role that placed him at the centre of Nigeria’s legal and anti-corruption framework.

The court is expected to fix a date for the hearing of bail applications and continuation of trial.
