Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Thursday paid a visit to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto Correctional Center, where he is currently being held following his recent conviction.

During the visit, Governor Otti reportedly held a private meeting with Kanu, assuring him that his administration—and leaders across the Southeast—remain committed to pursuing every legal and diplomatic pathway to secure his freedom. Otti emphasized that the ongoing detention of Kanu continues to impact peace and stability in the region and called for a speedy resolution of the matter.
He further reassured the people of Abia State that his government is actively engaging relevant stakeholders at the federal level to ensure that Kanu’s case receives the necessary attention, stressing that justice must go hand-in-hand with national unity.
The visit has generated reactions across the Southeast, with many describing it as a bold and strategic step towards calming regional tensions and advancing the push for Kanu’s release.
