Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has slammed the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as “a government that thinks after it acts” following the abrupt cancellation of presidential pardons granted to certain inmates.

Atiku, in a statement released on Friday, accused the government of policy inconsistency and poor judgment, saying the decision to revoke the pardons reflects a “reactionary approach to governance rather than sound policy planning.”
> “This administration seems to act before thinking, only to backtrack when public pressure mounts,” Atiku said. “Such leadership style breeds confusion, uncertainty, and weakens public trust in government.”
The cancelled pardons, initially announced earlier this month, were intended to reduce overcrowding in correctional facilities but have since drawn criticism from rights groups and opposition figures.
Atiku urged the Tinubu administration to adopt a more consultative and transparent decision-making process, emphasizing that national leadership should be “deliberate, not impulsive.”
Political analysts say the latest exchange further intensifies the growing rift between Atiku and Tinubu, as the opposition sharpens its tone ahead of the 2027 general elections.
