Covid-19 Lockdown Increases Spate Of Crime Caused By Hunger In Nigeria

The coronavirus lockdown in Nigeria, has suddenly increased the crime rate in some states, caused by hunger and starvation, as robbers have been terrorizing homes along Alakuko-Sango.

They’ve been going from home to home with POS and dangerous weapons, and if care is not taken, more deaths may be recorded from starvation, crimes and not coronavirus.

How do you lock down a man for weeks without his basic needs of food and water?

Robbers now break into homes to steal pots of soup and other consumables. The Government cannot lock people at home without providing basic daily needs for them and expect peace.

Whilst observing the lockdown at home, please are advised to be security conscious, as there’s been an increasing spate of crime.

Armed robbers are on the prowl even during the day as recorded cases in Sango, Ijoko, Oke-Aro, Matogun etc in Ogun State & now Abule Egba, Lagos State.

A group of boys have been arrested for terrorising citizens, by breaking into homes to rob for food, money, including valuable properties.

An average robber isn’t stealing to raise capital for a business, the money made from the act is usually spent on Drugs, Alcohol, Prostitutes and other exuberant lifestyle.

The Rapid Response Squad, a section of the Lagos State Police Command, arrested five hoodlums suspected to have unleashed mayhem on residents of Lagos border communities on Saturday.

The RRS team led by its Commander, Tunji Disu, said the suspects had harassed citizens in Abule-Egba, Alagbado, amongst others areas of the state.

Disu said five arrests have been made, adding that the police would be on standby to prevent further disturbances.

The PUNCH had reported that hoodlums robbed residents of the areas which fall under Alimosho and Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Areas of Lagos State on Saturday.

This happened as the 14-day lockdown order of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to curb the spread of COVID-19 enters day 12 in Lagos and Ogun States.

The two affected local governments in Lagos are the suburbs of the state with Ogun.

Disu added that some of the suspects were arrested while the RRS team and the police in the areas were on patrol in the Lagos-Ogun border communities.
