Covid- 19 And How Nigerian Police Is Extorting Its Citizens

The Nigeria police since the outbreak of covid-19, are busy making brisk money, extorting innocent Nigerian’s struggling to feed amid coronavirus and the lockdown, which is aim to control the spread.

An unidentified Nigerian woman, in a viral video, is calling on the government and all concerned to investigate what goes on at the police stations, specifically with the one in Agbowa, in ikorodu area of Lagos State for massive extortion.

The woman in a video of about 20 minutes narrates her ordeal in which the policemen in Agbowa extorted ten thousand naira from her and many others who were out in search for food.

This is not surprising and has become a norm in Nigeria, to be arrested illegally even before Covid- 19.

Although the situation is pathetic as the operate now under the lockdown and restriction of movement.

Of the five major public institutions surveyed, the police emerged as the most corrupt, with the power sector identified as the second most corrupt in the country today.

Other public institutions identified as corrupt by 70 per cent of Nigerians surveyed are the judiciary, education and health ministries.

The survey reveals that the level of corruption has not changed in the last five years.

Why is the police in charge of protecting lives and properties the most corrupt?
