South Africa Deports Nigerians For criminal offences.

About 97 Nigerians were deported by the South African government over alleged civil unrest and criminal offences.

The deportation is coming at a period Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa are facing serious xenophobic attacks in that country.

The deportees comprising 95 males and two females arrived Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Monday with a chartered aircraft with the registration number GBB710 from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Immigration sources, said six of the deportees were returned to the country for drug offences; 10 were arrested and deported for criminal offences while others committed immigration offences in South Africa.

Those deported for drug and criminal offences were handed over to police for further prosecution while others with civil cases were left to go home after thorough proof from the officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

In recent time, deportation and voluntary return stories have become a re-occurring phenomenon in the country as no fewer than 300 Nigerians have either been deported from UK, or voluntarily returned from Libya and Mali.
