Terry Edwards was killed last night by lethal injection at 10.17pm – 15 years after he committed a horrific double murder.

This is first execution of Donald Trump’s White House term.

The 43-year-old shot two Subway workers in the head during a botched robbery on the fast food sandwich shop in 2002.

He was convicted along with co-defendant Kirk Edwards, an older cousin, of murdering shop employees Mickell Goodwin and Tommy Walker in Dallas.

The victims’ families were present, but Edwards did not look at them as he was executed.

A statement on their behalf read: “Tonight is a time for us to remember Mickey and Tommy.

“Though this chapter of our journey is now over, we will always feel the loss of them in our lives.”

The execution was the 540th in Texas since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976, the most of any state.

Trump has been a vocal supporter of the death penalty in the past, backing the re-introduction of capital punishment to New York state.

In 1989, he took out full-page newspaper adverts demanding the death penalty for five black and Latino youths convicted of the murder and rape of a woman.

A judge cleared the so-called Central Park Five of the crime 13 years later.

Trump’s advert had declared: “BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. BRING BACK OUR POLICE!

“I want to hate these muggers and murderers.

“They should be forced to suffer and, when they kill, they should be executed for their crimes.”
