US President elect Donald Trump and wife Melania set off in a motorcade for the US capital after landing.
The president-elect, who is set for the oath of office on Friday, will place a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery before crossing the Potomac to make remarks at the Lincoln Memorial, the epicenter of the pre-inaugural festivities.
The arrival marked the culmination of a transition of power underway since his November 8 election victory over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.
Trump announced his final cabinet pick earlier in the day — agriculture secretary-designate Sonny Perdue — and US Senate confirmation hearings of his other nominees were underway on Capitol Hill as he arrived.
