Doctor Collapses After Working 48 Hours In Operating Theatre

A surgeon who carried out seven back to back life-saving operations collapsed in the operating theatre after working 48 hours staight.

The 58-year-old said he only took a two-hour rest break between saving the lives of numerous patients and ended up doing a 48-hour shift before his body finally gave in.

The doctor at the Wuhu Hospital, in eastern China, was in the middle of a surgery when he suddenly felt faint and began leaning against the wall of the operating room.

Mr Liang, then slept in the theatre wearing his scrubs before receiving a glucose drip.

He said: “I knew my body was too weak when I started feeling faint and broke out in cold sweat.”

One of Liang’s colleagues said they had attended seven consecutive operations over two days when the surgeon finally collapsed, but he is now fine after taking a proper rest, on doctor’s orders

Mr Liang added: “The most important thing for us is always the health of the patients.

“Being able to save the life of a sick patient brings us the most relief.”
