Five Allegedly Die In Ikorodu, Lagos Boat Accident

No fewer than 5 person have lost their lives in a 20-capacity passenger boat belonging to Blue sea from CMS/Ebute-Ero to Ikorodu which suddenly had leakages from underneath the boat and began to sink.

An eye witness simply identified as Nelson in a chat with maymaygist, disclosed that the People in panic were all struggling to get out of the sinking boat, thereby jumping into the lagoon.

He said despite the fact that the victims wore life jackets,
they died due to stampede.

This is because Nigerians are not organized and disciplined

He further revealed that most of the boats are all poorly maintained and government lacks effective regulation.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management team, LASEMA, the victims were deposited at the morgue in ikorodu general hospital while 5 persons (4 female and 1 male) were rescued alive.

The Lagos State police spokesman, Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident, noted that sixteen persons were rescued.

“The information reaching us from the Marine unit of the command reveals that five persons died in the Boat mishap, while 16 persons were rescued alive, Oti said.

“Our marine team is still combing the waters to see if there are other victims in the water.

“The Commissioner of police, CP Imohimi Edgal has ordered the officer in charge of the marine unit to investigate the remote cause of the Boat accident.”
